Fear is a tool that can be used to push us into action or immobilize us. If a car is coming toward us and shows no sign of slowing down, fear will attempt to move us out of harms way. The fear, then, is useful as it moves us to take action. Other times fear creates a response similar to a deer before headlights. This common reaction to uncertainty keeps us from manifesting that which we desire. Here is the catch: It is all uncertain.

Impermanence is a law of nature. Nothing remains the same. The one thing we can be certain of is change. Look around and try to record in your mind the many changes that are taking place at this moment around you. Air is moving; cells morphing; blood flowing; muscles contracting; electrical currents shifting. Sound waves move in every direction, creating new sounds. Scents waft by in the flowing air. At this moment, everything inside of you and outside of you is changing. You are even changing your mind!

I am learning to rest in the uncertainty.

I feel a deep appreciation for life as I recognize the changes around me. I marvel that the only thing holding it all together is Energy. It is infinite in every direction. It creates and destroys. It flows through us as the breath of life. It is the force behind change.

We influence change as does everything that energy flows through. We can open to life and heed the call of our hearts, or we can close off through fear and regret and begin to die.

There is a point I want to make: we never know how it is going to change. We never will. So why not rest in the uncertainty? Why not let go of fear and regret and be comforted that everything works together in perfect harmony? If it didn’t, it wouldn’t be.

As I pay attention to my actions and thoughts, I am aware of the influence I am having on life. When it comes to fear, I can prepare; be at peace; or cease to thrive. When it comes to uncertainty, I am learning to trust.
