A Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness

If we are strong, when the woes of life come… ( changes that we aren’t ready to accept), we will quickly recover from strikes of frustration, disappointment, and regret. If we are weak, they will overcome us.

Strength comes from continual nourishment of the mind and body. When one wants more intensely to be of health than they want to indulge in momentary satisfaction, they nourish their self. They ‘hunger and thirst for righteousness’.

Most of us understand what our bodies need, whether or not we provide it for ourselves. We know we need fresh air, water, exercise, rest, and nourishing food. To maintain a healthy body requires diligence, awareness, and effort on our part. There is so much temptation all around us! We become sedentary. We drink coffee, soda, and other ‘replacements’ for water that actually rob us of the very properties that good water provides. We choose the cheeseburger and fries… or the quickie taco. We love those brownies, especially with ice cream and hot fudge covering them! But… we know what we need. We know that as we make the choice to remain indoors, all cozy on our sofa, eating our Doritos and drinking our beer, that we are harming our bodies. Frankly, many of us don’t care. We aren’t aware of the effects that are happening at this very moment to our bodies and our minds.

Yes, the mind, too, is affected by our physical choices. But just as much, and even more so, it is affected by our choice of food for thought. It’s something that many of us aren’t aware of. We open our minds to whatever is available… pouring in garbage from multiple sources. Not only are we addicted and controlled by television and other sources of entertaining media, we also surrender our lives to the dirty laundry of ‘the daily news’ and gossip. How many soap operas of ‘the stars’ and daily horrors do we need to know about? I’m not suggesting that we shelter ourselves from what is in front of us, but often we give our lives away for things that we have no direct control over. We love the emotion of shock the media brings because it makes us feel alive. At least we care about something for the moment. But it weighs us down. Our faith is next to nil. We no longer connect even with ourselves, let alone others. It is killing us.

We can’t become ‘too healthy’ physically, and the same is true for the mind. One cannot input ‘too much’ inspiration. We cannot over- nourish our minds with too much wisdom. We are starving for healthy input!

To be healthy requires an AWARENESS of what makes one ill and what produces vital energy. It isn’t necessary to turn from what makes us sick if we are already pointing at what makes us healthy. A hunger and thirst for righteousness will do the trick. 

We choose our health moment by moment.

What will you put into your body today? *** What will you put into your mind?
